Who we are...

Our Vision

Our desire as a community of faith is that you will encounter Jesus in a way that transforms your life and empowers you to live life as God intended you to live it. As a church we endeavour to order our way of life in such a way to facilitate an environment for that to happen.

Although, like most churches, we run gatherings and various programs our intention is to create a culture where being a follower of Jesus is not about ‘going’ to church but ‘being’ the church in everyday life.

For us following Jesus and being dedicated to the cause of His kingdom flows from why we believe Jesus came;

  • To restore peoples self worth –  Dignity
  • To restore peoples reason for living – Purpose
  • To restore peoples eternal destiny – Hope

And it is out of the 'restoration of Jesus' that essentially we see the good news of the kingdom of God (the gospel) which shapes the vision of our church which is;

                            'People living in the wholeness and fullness of life as God intended it to be.'

If you would like to connect with a church that is simply doing what it can to make that a reality then perhaps our church is a good place to start.

Our Values

Our values at Nowra Church of Christ flow from a desire to create a culture of ‘care’ that permeates the life of our church and impacts the life of our city. Our commitment to care flows directly from our vision of seeing; people living in the wholeness and fullness of life as God intended it to be.
Spiritual Health
Christian spirituality is not just about believing in a creed or a statement of faith but living a life intrinsically connected to the Triune God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. For us this is a whole of life experience; a life dedicated to growing in relationship to our creator and Saviour, a life directed by His Spirit, a life dedicated to His word and a life lived within the context of a spiritual community.
We long to see people become followers of Jesus and thrive in their spiritual journey becoming vigorous and passionate about their pursuit of faith and growing to maturity in what it means to live life in Him.

Although it is not always easy to achieve or measure we are intentional in providing an environment as a community of faith for this to become a reality.
Relational Health
Being a follower of Jesus is synonymous with being in community. Faith was never meant to be a journey taken in isolation. Equally as much, it's not just about attending services or programs.
For us its about being in community!
  • A Community where being real and authentic is normal
  • A Community where we are accepted and where we belong;
  • A Community of deep-spirited friends.
To this end we endeavour to shape a culture that provides people with the best possible means of establishing deep abiding friendships that  provide spiritual support, emotional sustenance and social connections.
Personal Health
Being concerned about and caring for people struggling with physical, emotional or mental well-being reflects the heart of God. We were not meant to cope or endure on our own, especially when dealing with circumstances outside our ability to care for ourselves. Looking after the ‘sick’ within our midst needs to be met with every resource we can adequately provide.
With this in mind we are intentional about shaping a culture that is responsive to the needs of others through an effective, efficient  and excellent prayer network, personal response, and practical needs support system.
Functional Health
Living life well or to the ‘full’ encompasses more than just doing well with God it also involves doing well in life. Some of our greatest struggles in faith are not associated with ‘spiritual’ battles but rather with functional battles such as financial management, nutrition, boundary setting, addictions, attitudes, relationships etc. A vibrant and healthy faith encompasses all of life. It is as much ‘physical’ as it is ‘spiritual’  or to put it a better way ‘seen’ as ‘unseen’.
We will equip and empower people through various means in order for them to be in a better place within themselves to live well.
Missional Health
Extending the kingdom of God is a non negotiable for those who follow Jesus, it’s just what we do. We are not about building our church but rather His kingdom. For us this means a complete reorientation of what it means to be the church.  It is easy to say it’s not about going to church but rather being the church nevertheless we are determined to orientate our way of life in order to make this a tangible reality.

Being driven by the cause of His kingdom is something we are determined to see permeate the heart of our church. Who we are as Nowra Church of Christ is not defined by our gatherings, our programs or our property but by our way of life ordered around His kingdom priorities.

Our Story

Nowra Church of Christ is a part of a fantastic movement known as the Churches of Christ, NSW. You can find more about our movement by going to www.freshhope.org.au.

NCofC began its first gathering on Easter Sunday 1969. Weekly gatherings were held each Sunday in the Country Women’s Association (CWA) Hall in Berry Street, Nowra.  In the early days Wollongong Church of Christ provided a tremendous amount of support in see our church firmly established. In the later part of 1970 the church commenced an evening gathering.

As the church continued to grow there was a real need to explore the possiblity of securing its own facilities to cater to the growing church. On 2nd October 1982 the present building located at the corner of Illaroo Road and Yurunga Drive was opened.

With a passion to see the city of the Shoalhaven transformed by Gods kingdom on Christmas Day 1990  the church embarked on a new endeavour in planting a church in Callala Bay.

In October 2007, the Nowra Church of Christ celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The Church today has grown to be a thriving community with a deep passion for their faith in Jesus and in living out the values of Gods kingdom in the everyday.
